Jason Momoa Cast in Sony’s ‘Helldivers’ Adaptation
The “Super Earth” recruitment posters have a new face. In a massive announcement that dropped on February 11, 2026, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions confirmed that Jason Momoa has officially signed on to star in the live-action Helldivers movie.
With a release date now locked for November 10, 2027, Sony is positioning this as their premier action franchise, banking on the chaotic, satirical energy that made Helldivers 2 a cultural phenomenon in 2024.
The Creative “A-Team”
Sony isn’t playing it safe with the talent behind the camera. Joining Momoa are some of the biggest names in high-octane cinema:
- Director: Justin Lin, the veteran architect of the Fast & Furious franchise and Star Trek Beyond, will helm the project. Lin is known for his ability to handle massive ensemble casts and over-the-top practical stunts—perfect for the “stratagem-dropping” chaos of the game.
- Writer: Gary Dauberman (It, Annabelle) has penned the script. His background in horror is a promising sign for fans hoping the film captures the terrifying scale of the Terminid hives and the cold, mechanical dread of the Automaton fronts.
- Producers: The project is being shepherded by PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Hutch Parker, ensuring the film stays true to the “Managed Democracy” lore established by Arrowhead Game Studios.

Jason Momoa’s Triple-Threat Year
By the time Helldivers arrives in 2027, Momoa will have arguably the most eclectic “gamer” resume in Hollywood history. The announcement cements a busy 2026-2027 slate for the actor:
- Street Fighter (2026): Momoa is set to appear as the iconic, electricity-wielding Blanka later this year.
- Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026): He will finally make his debut as the intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in the DCU this summer.
- Dune: Part Three (2026): He is rumored to return to Arrakis in some capacity (likely as a ghola) following his standout performance as Duncan Idaho.
- Helldivers (2027): Leading the charge as a veteran Helldiver (character name currently under wraps).
The Tone: ‘Starship Troopers’ for the New Age?
The biggest question among the community is whether the film will lean into the game’s dark satire. Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has already expressed confidence in Justin Lin, noting that his work on Star Trek proved he can balance heart with spectacle.
Reports suggest the film will follow an elite squad—led by Momoa—dispatched to a distant world to “liberate” it from a Terminid infestation, only to realize the true cost of the propaganda they’ve been fed. With Momoa’s natural charisma and Lin’s eye for action, the film is aiming to be more than just a shooter adaptation; it’s aiming to be the definitive “military sci-fi” event of the late 2020s.
