The Wheel Weaves Again: New Animated Series and Video Games Announced for The Wheel of Time

The Dragon Reborn is returning to the screen, but not in the way fans originally expected. Following the sudden cancellation of Prime Video’s live-action The Wheel of Time after its third season, IP owner iwot Studios has announced a massive expansion of the franchise into animation and gaming. In a strategic partnership with Arcane and League of Legends producer Thomas Vu, the studio is moving forward with an ambitious slate of projects designed to keep the world of Robert Jordan’s novels alive.

The centerpiece of this announcement is a brand-new animated television series and multiple animated feature films. Unlike the live-action show, these projects are being developed through a partnership with Initiate Entertainment and aim to leverage the visual freedom of animation to depict the series’ complex magic and massive battles. While these are separate from the previously announced 3D animated prequel film The White Tower, they signal a shift toward a “transmedia” universe that can explore different eras of the lore simultaneously.

Gamers also have a lot to look forward to, as two distinct interactive projects are now confirmed to be in development. The first is a new PC and mobile title led by Thomas Vu, which is intended to broaden the franchise’s global reach. This project exists alongside the high-profile, AAA open-world RPG already in production at iwot Games Montréal. That title, led by industry veteran Craig Alexander, is expected to offer a fully immersive experience across the entire 14-book geography, allowing players to explore the world as it was meant to be seen.

While the live-action cancellation in May 2025 was a “devastating blow” to the cast and crew, the move to animation and gaming may solve the budget and scheduling hurdles that plagued the Amazon production. By partnering with talent from the Arcane team, iwot Studios is betting that high-quality animation is the key to finally doing justice to the scale of the source material. Distribution details and release windows are still under wraps, but for fans of the series, the Wheel has clearly started to turn once more.
